any in history. What she has done in the past it is possible for her to do
again."
Ook de volgende zinsneden leiden tot overdenking:
„Is there not a lesson here for the armies of to-day? Mobility was the
weakest point in the Great War. The armies of Europa were relatively
as immobile as those of the Shah of Karismia and mediaeval Christen
dom, because they based their organisation on a multiplicity of arms,
and tied their arms to the service of the less mobile.
The deduction from the Mongol campaigns would surely seem to be
that superior general mobility when allied with hitting power is both a
more powerful and a more secure tool than the mere loco-mobility and
defensive power of an army founded on infantry".
In „Topics of the Day" vinden we enkele opmerkingen over „The uni

vraagstuk nog lang niet is opgelost-
The Journal of the Royal Artillery July 1925.
that its pack transport should be abolished".
A. A. Goschen.
gewonnen. Hij zegt daarover:
„As the infantry rely more and more on the artillery for covering fire
both in attack and defence, the importance of attacking the weapons
affording this covering fire will become even greater; in fact it seems possi
ble that if our counter battery work develops it would be preferable to engage
the guns giving covering fire to the attack, leaving the defending infantry,
unmolested by the hostile artillery, free to use their weapons to beat off the
attacking infantry. Without doubt counter battery work will commence
from the moment two opposing armies gain contact, and in the early stages
will be carried out almost entirely by the light artillery working under or
ders of the divisional commander. The decision as to the number of batte
ries to be alloted to this work must rest with the divisional commander
and will prove no easy one to arrive at."
Lieut-colonel E.F.
hem meegemaakte Mount-Everest expeditie in 1924.
