Learn the history, science and tools of aviation archeology; explore the sources, logic and field techniques of historical investigation. THE PROGRAM: Friday 11th: Welcome-reception at the Military Aviation Museum. Saturday 12th: Principles of Aviation Historic Preservation. Morning session: A critical look at the air museums world; The airplane as artifact; Defining the terminology; To fly or not to fly. Afternoon session: How to visit an air museum: Conservation versus interpretation; How to spot an imposter; new trends in exhibits. Sunday 13th: An introduction to aviation archeology. Morning session: Sources and searches; where have all the airplanes gone; What should we save; Investigative techniques. Afternoon session: Evaluation and recovery; The artifact in situ; Documen ting the find; Recovery considerations. Monday 14th: In the field, visit to a RNLAF recovery operation. TIGHAR is the acronym for'The International Group for Historical Recovery', an American non-profit organization dedicated to promoting responsible aviation archeology and historic preservation. Their activities include: - compiling and verifying report of rare and historic aircraft surviving in remote areas; - conducting investigations and recovery expeditions in co-operation with museums; - serving as a voice for integrity, responsibility and professionalism in the field of aviation historic preservation. The Military Aviation Museum is the museum for the history of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, the Naval Air Service and the Military Aviation of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army. Founded in 1968 the museum celebrates its 25 Anniversary in 1993. The museumcollection counts approximately 70 aircraft, of wich 35 are on display. They include a Fokker D.VII, Spitfire Mk.IX, Mustang P-51K, Lockheed 12A, Gloster Meteor Mk.IV and many others. THE TUITION FEE: Hfl. 250,00.
