Inlandsche officieren.
Op blz. 436 der Sketch van 7 Januari j. 1. wordt in een opstel getiteld
„The cadet corps of Indian princes" o. m. het volgende aangetroffen.
Lord Curzon thought that the very best blood of India should be allow
ed to serve in the commissioned ranks of the Army of the Crown, and
he therefore established the Cadet School, a very aristocratic native ver
sion of our Sandhurst, where the scions of the greatest families of India
should learn thoroughly all that can be taught at school of the art of war
and should, if they showed a taste for a soldier's life and capacity, be given
commissions in the army at the same footing as any young European of
good birth.
If the experiment proves a success it will bo as customary for a young
Rajah of one of the highest Indian families to have served in the army
in India as it is for our own royal princes to serve in our own army.
Jachtcommando's.
In Oost-Java en Benkoelen zal een proef worden genomen met de op
richting van jachtcommando's, te vormen uit zich daarvoor vrijwillig
aanmeldende militairen van Europeeschen of inlandschen landaard, ten
einde de bevolking te bevrijden van de in die streken veel voorkomende
tijgers. Zij zullen bewapend worden met een karabijn met expansie-projec
tielen en een hartsvanger, en boven hun volle soldij marschvoeding-in-
demniteit genieten. De commando's 2ullen hoogstens één maand ach
tereen hun garnizoen mogen verlaten. Zij ontvangen de voor het dooden
van tijgers vastgestelde premies en de huid der geschoten dieren. Hun
verrichtingen worden gelijkgesteld met oorlogsdiensten.
