position. Aeroplanes of the necessary capacity and air-endurance should
be built, the requirements of wireless telephones peculiar to the tasks in
volved should be studied, commanders should be trained now so that they
may be efficient when the system is complete and all the complications
involved in the change from ground to air control and the attendant rever
sion from air to ground control should be carefully examined".
Twee opstellen geven in dit nummer een bewijs welk een groote plaats
de sport inneemt in het leven van den Engelschen officier..
Het eene is „Shooting in the Central provinces" handelend over de jacht
op grof wild in Britsch-Indiëhet tweede „The big liagh at Chansa" gaat
over het bekende „pig-sticking".
Journal of the Royal United Service Institution February 1925. Dit brengt
het 2e deel van „An outline of the Rumanian campaign 1916-1918."
Verder een opstel „Old military customs still existant" door Major Tomes.
Ook in ons militaire leven bestaan vele gewoonten en tradities, waarvan
de oorsprong aan velen onzer niet bekend is.
Ook „Operations on interior lines in bush warfare (German East Africa
1917)" van colonel Orr is het lezen waard. Hierin worden door hem als
ooggetuige vele passages uit het bekende boek van v. Lettow aan critiek
onderworpen.
Uit „Naval Notes" copieeren we het volgende:
„New British Battleships—The following particulars concerning the new
British battleships „Nelson" and „Rodney", laid down in December, 1922,
have been published during the past quarter, but have not yet received
official confirmation Standard displacement, about 35,000 tons; length,
702 ft.; extreme beam, 106 ft.; mean draught, 30 ft.; mean armament, nine
16-in., 50-calibre wire-wound guns in three triple turrets, situated in for
ward part of the ship; secondary battery, twelve or sixteen 6-in. guns,
mounted in pairs inclosed turrets; maximum turret gun range, about 40,000
yards; main armour belt, 14-in, thick; speed, about 21 knots."
Onder „Military notes" vonden we het volgende vermeld:
„Under the new organisation tanks will still be attached to the infantry
and will not form an autonomous arm.
Their armament will form a branch of study under the „Service de
l'infanterie". This is a new creation on the same lines as the „Service
de rartillerie," and will form a new bureau under the „1st Directorate"
at the War Office. It will be responsible for: -
(1) Arms of small calibre and their munitions.
(2) „Engius d 'accompagnement" (i. c., 37-mm. guns, Stokes mortars, etc.)
and their munitions.
(3) Grenades, bombs, etc.
(4) Tank materiel.
„Bulletin beige des sciences militaires" Fevrier 1925. „Les opérations de
l'Armeé beige" wordt vervolgd met het relaas van het gebeurde op 6 October
1914 voor Antwerpen.
Verder bevat dit nummer het 11 e deel van „Principeset méthodes de
guerre dans la campagne Russo-Japonaise 1904- 1SC5)", waarin de weder-
zijdsche operatieplannen worden besproken. Major B. E. M. Heirman geeft
een bijdrage over:
„Quelques considérations sur l'emploi du génie".
In het Belg. leger zijn Duitsche lichte mijnwerpers, ingedeeld als infante-
riegeschut. In verband daarmee verschijnt in dit nummer een artikel „La
compagnie de Minenwerfer. D'après le Règlement allemand
Om een denkbeeld te geven wat alzoo vast zit aan de indeeling van
een compagnie mijnwerpers per regiment infanterie (zooals in Duitschland)
komt het ons nuttig voor het volgende over te nemen:
