Onder het opschrift I he Infantery Board" geeft Major M.J. Gunner
gegevens en foto'si van een in beproeving zijnde „tractor power cart" voor
infanterie gebruik.
Onder de „Notes from Chief of Infantery" wordt een en ander geze<*d
over de „training films". Hieruit vermeiden we:
„The revision of the films now in existence has been initiated. A new
film on the bayonet has been taken at the Infantry School. The following
new films were taken during the past summer at West Point, N. Y. under
the supervision of this office and the Infantry Schoolcourtesy and dis-
cipline, the manual of arms drill of the rifle squad, and drill of the rifle
platoon and campany. These films when completed will be in accordance
with the latest Training Regulations on the several subjects and will in
clude slow motion pictures of many of the movements which are portrayed."
The Asiatic Review. October 1925. Hierin komen twee belangrijke artike
len voor onder het hoofd: „The Pacific Problem", Het eerste is getiteld:
„Japan s relations with America". De strekking is om aan te toonen dat
die verhouding niet zoo slecht is als wel wordt beweerd. Waarom dit
wordt beweerd? Schrijver beantwoordt deze vraag met een wedervraag, nl.
„Is there not a European Power or Powers which will derive a benefit
from a weakened Japan or a weakened America Will not great commercial:
nations of Europe, eager to maintain the economic supremacy they have lon<r"
enjoyed in the Far East, especially in China, welcome a conflict wich will ine
vitably prove a serious setback to Japan's growing trade and industry? If so, is
it not natural that some Europeans, possible officially or otherwise inspired
should deliberately hold up before the American public the spectre of a
Japanese menace, emphasizing with plausible statistics that unless the
American navy builds more ships, and builds quickly, it will soon lag
behind the Japanese navy?"
Hij toont voorts aan dat de Japansche politiek in het Verre Oosten eerder in
het voordeel dan in het nadeel van Amerika is geweest. Zoo haalt hij ten
slotte de volgende woorden aan van een Amerikaanschen schrijver:
„Japan came forward and dislodged Russia. The effort cost the United
States not a life nor even a cent. It cost Japan about 1,000,000,000, it
cost her the labour of one-fifth of her productive male population for more
than a year and a half, and it cost her the lives of nearly one in every
hundred of her male productive workers. Russia was stopped; Europe was
also stopped. The partition of China was delayed and probably will never
take place. This result was a commercial and political benefit to the United
States".
Het tweede artikel heet „Liberal America's attitude towardsJapan"
Ook de schrijver hiervan wil niets hooren van een gespannen verhouding
tusschen het Amerikaansche en het Japansche volk.
Hij noemt de immigratiewet van 1924 „a blunder of Congress" en betoogt
dat het grootste gedeelte der Unie den Japanners goed gezind is.
Revue d'artillerie. 15 October 1925. Hieruit vermelden we: „Réglage ou
controle? door commandant Menjaud. Hierin worden de definities dezer
beide begrippen duidelijk gesteld en schrijver werscht in de Fr. voorschriften
de benaming „réglage te vervangen door „controle". Zoo is hij van oordeel
dat
„Toute Ia rëglementation se trouverait répartie en troistitres, correspon-
dant aux trois opérations fondamentales: prëparafion, conduite du feu,
controle.
Le titre relatif au controle diviserait en trois partiesrégies générales
de controle des tirs, particularités du controle resultant des conditions
d observation, controle par coups fusant hauts."
Voorts geeft hij eenige nieuwe ideeën betreffende die „controle", afwij
kende van de Fr. „Instruction sur le tir".
